Job Summary:

The Host greets guests and oversees the dining room reservations and the efficient seating of guests in a professional manner.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promptly greets all arriving guests, thanking departing guests and bidding them a pleasant day/evening using the guest’s name when known.
  • Ability to recognize VIP and regular guests.
  • Assumes a pleasant and helpful attitude toward guests and fellow staff members; consistently striving to provide friendly and efficient service.
  • Seats guest in required manner, pacing walk through dining room with the guest, pulling all chairs out whenever possible, ladies chairs first.
  • Assists in moving guests closer to the table once seated, particularly elderly guests or children.
  • Takes care that any children in the party are provided immediately with entertainment (crayons, coloring books, etc.) and a children’s menu, booster or high chair when appropriate.
  • Answers all phone calls and is able to use phone system efficiently.
  • Is well versed with the menu, prices, dress code, directions to hotel, accepted forms of payment, hours of operation, room capacity and all guest related hotel services.
  • Record all reservations as directed. Awareness of all procedures for taking reservations and refer all special requests to manager.
  • Reviews future bookings, keeps manager and/or chef informed of any changes as necessary.
  • Seats guests in rotating stations to ensure a smooth pace in the dining room and each station.
  • Understands “phasing” procedures to ensure that no unauthorized overtime is incurred while maintaining expeditious service.
  • Maintains a constant awareness to the entire dining room and is aware of any situation assisting quickly and quietly in its correction, attending to guest complaints immediately.
  • Able to use the micros system for check processing and transfer procedures.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly, well stocked host cabinet and area. Inspects and ensures that all materials and equipment are complete and ready for service and securing these items at closing.
  • Assists in recognizing underage guests by puling wine glass as guests are seating.
  • Records daily information in the host log book. Uses the host log to communicate all vital information to other host persons and managers.
  • Assures another staff member covers phones when it is necessary to leave the floor.
  • Assists managers on special holiday projects with reservation and floor plan set-ups and other strategies.
  • Walks repeatedly through dining room making note of tables progressing in dining service to keep an accurate wait and reservation list.
  • Comply with all Pebble Beach Company safety and health policies and procedures.

Absolutely Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be available to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • 1+ years as a host in a high-volume restaurant environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of point of sale system helpful.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for long periods of time and move frequently from area to area. Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. Firm grasping and repetitive hand-use required.
